If one had to choose a universal object that has crossed the ages, present on all continents, which is at the same time artistic, spiritual and functional, the mask would undoubtedly be well positioned.
If, in addition, this object were to be at the same time versatile, symbolic, phantasmagorical, protective, sad, cruel, cheerful, representing good or evil depending on the usage, creating a link between life and death, the mask would undoubtedly be the chosen one.
It is all these dimensions that interest me in my research and inspire me to produce a series of paintings on masks.
The masks in my paintings come from different continents and periods, and are fused according to the paintings with photos taken during travels, drawings, various works, nature, details of objects, etc...
The paintings are declined in 7 colour ranges, each range having between 5 and 7 main colours with a search for a balance between these different colours.
This fusion between the masks and the other patterns is carried out with the help of image processing programs that I write.
The mask allows to hide, to transform, to play a role, but also, paradoxically, sometimes allows its wearer to reveal its true nature. This true nature which is hidden by another mask, which is our face.
It is this latter function that converges on my work, looking for another self that would be freed from the shackles of the environment and that would allow a less constraining vision of things.
