It's hard to write something new and original about travels.
So I'm going to use a few quotes from the hundreds on the subject as an introduction to my interest in travels.
"There is no man more complete than one who has traveled a lot, who has changed the shape of his thought and his life twenty times"
Alfonse de Lamartine
"You cannot travel on a path without being the path yourself"
Buddha
"The journey is to go from oneself to oneself through the others"
Tuareg proverb
"We never go as far as when we don't know where we are going"
Christopher Colombus
"Even the longest journey begins with the first step"
Lao Tse
"The journey is a return to the essential”
Tibetan proverb
"The man who wants to learn must read first, and then travel to rectify what he has learned"
Giacomo Casanova
"Traveler, there is no path, the path is made by walking"
Antonio Machado
"Man cannot discover new oceans without having the courage to lose sight of the shore"
Andre Gide
"What is the point of traveling if you take yourself with you? It's about the soul that needs to be changed, not the climate"
Seneca
"The greatest traveler is not the one who has circled the world ten times, but the one who has circled himself once"
Gandhi
"There is only one journey, it is the journey within yourself"
Rainer Maria Rilke
"The goal of our journey, of our quest is to succeed in unraveling the mystery of the things of life"
African proverb
"I usually answer those who ask me the reason for my travels: that I know well what I am fleeing, but not what I am looking for"
Michel de Montaigne
"Never hesitate to go far, beyond all seas, all borders, all countries, all beliefs"
Amin Maalouf
"The longest journey is the journey inward, for the one who has chosen this destiny has just begun his quest to the source of his being"
Dag Hammarskjöld
My interest in travel is that it allows you to expose yourself to different cultures, geographies, eras, customs as long as you go with an open mind. It therefore invites you to venture on the most difficult path, that of the inner journey.
In the paintings in this series, I combine photos taken during my travels with symbols, people, places, figures in order to express the fusion between these different entities encountered during the travels.
